Jammu, Sep 13: Northern Railways has continued the successful operation of dedicated parcel trains to transport apples from the Kashmir Valley to Delhi, a service that began on September 11.
The first run carried two parcel vans with 23 tonnes each, one reaching Adarsh Nagar, Delhi, in less than 21 hours and the other Jammu in under six hours. The initiative has been widely welcomed by traders and fruit growers as a boost to Kashmir’s horticulture economy.
Building on the response, an eight-coach JPP-RCS parcel train will depart from Budgam to Delhi on September 15, with its first consignment fully booked. The September 16 service has also been booked in advance.
On Saturday, a JPP-RCS train left Adarsh Nagar for Budgam carrying textiles, auto parts, courier goods, decorative items and white goods. Additionally, an apple goods train with 10 BCN wagons was dispatched from Anantnag to Delhi, with three wagons destined for Bari Brahmana (Jammu) and seven for the capital.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, said the initiative will provide equal opportunities to small, medium and large fruit producers while boosting the region’s economy.
