FIRs filed against market violators

Srinagar, September 10: With an aim to ensure quality food supplies and protect public health, Police in Handwara carried out a market checking drive across various areas of PD Handwara, alongwith Food Safety Officer and the Executive Magistrate.
During the drive, meat shops, Kiryana Stores, Hotels, Restaurants, and other food vending outlets were inspected in detail. The checking focused on ensuring Hygiene among the food vending outlets and implement proper sanitation standards.
The food items were checked for their expiry dates. Moreover, display of approved rate lists was stressed among the food outlet owners. Besides quality and authenticity of products being sold to consumers was also verified.
Shopkeepers were strictly instructed to maintain proper cleanliness, refrain from overpricing, and adhere to food safety and public health regulations.
The joint inspection revealed several violations.
Accordingly, FIR No. 206/2025 under relevant sections was registered at PS Handwara, FIR No. 35/2025 at PS Qalamabad and FIR NO 54/2025 at PS Villgam against the food outlets found operating in violation of the prescribed norms.
