Wild cannabis destroyed in Budgam

Srinagar, August 14:  In continuation of its ongoing drive against illegal mining, J&K Police have intensified efforts to combat illegal mining activities in the Police district Awantipora and have arrested 03 persons involved in illegal extraction of minerals.
Police party from Police Post Toll Plaza headed by Incharge PP Toll Plaza SI Ishfaq Ahmad arrested 03 persons namely Nazir Ahmad Ganaie, son-in-law of Mohd Yousf Dar, Javeed Ahmad Dar son of Ab. Rasheed Dar and Feroz Ahmad Dar son of Gh. Hassan Dar all residents of Dogripora involved in illegal extraction of sand and damaging embankment of river Jehulm at Kaichkoot Awantipora.
Accordingly,  a case vide FIR No. 177/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, as part of its sustained campaign to safeguard youth from drug abuse, J&K Police along with Revenue and Excise Department, carried out a large-scale drive to destroy wild cannabis across district Budgam.
Extensive patches of wild bung were destroyed on-site along roadsides, near parks, and on riverbanks within Budgam’s jurisdiction. The drive was conducted under the supervision of SSP Budgam. During the drive, police officials also engaged with locals to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and the legal consequences of cultivating or trafficking narcotics.
Police have reaffirmed zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and illegal cultivation, vowing to continue such operations across the district, and urged citizens to report any such illegal activities to help build a drug-free society.
