Digital Dawn for education sector

Jammu and Kashmir is undergoing a digital transformation of education in schools under the smarter school initiative in what is a significant step toward modernizing education.

The digitization of schools is important and suggests a promising future ahead for education in Jammu and Kashmir. The report states that a total of 4,011 ICT (Information and Communication Technology) labs have been approved for government schools in Jammu and Kashmir, of which 3,036 are ready.

The develop reports also mentioned smart classrooms and mentions all of the smart classes in Jammu and Kashmir – as the report states that 4,361 Smart Classrooms have been approved for government schools in Jammu and Kashmir and 1,352 are functional.

These approvals show that there is a completely new shift from a traditional methods of learning and now use interactive teaching tools with internet-based access for students in learning environments that lacked world-class learning tools.

The ICT labs and smart classrooms are narrowing the gap from the digital divide while providing education and removing ignorance in digital literacy, increasing multiple virtual learning environments, and broaden interactive platform content.

This kind of technology will increase understanding, creativity, critical thinking, and technological skills (21st century skills) even in remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

It does not only help students. For educators now have this sophisticated technology and tools that aide in the making learning a fun and effective environment.

Digital classrooms are changing the teaching-learning environment because students are now empowered to engage in muliti-media presentations, virtual experiments, and the ability to access larger online repositories.

This shift is notable for keeping student engagement levels high and improving their overall academic performance.

There is greater possibility in building a better education and learning system by making Jammu and Kashmir’s education system National, which the Samagra Shiksha scheme is doing, and building better connectivity with the rest of the country.

The students of the Union Territory will now equally compete with students across the country, and will have a higher chance to access better opportunities in higher education and jobs.

While a lot has been done, the government should pay attention to finishing all approved projects on time and fostering continued training of teachers to utilize these digital platforms as much as they could, and inherently maintain and upgrade what has already been introduced into the Union Territory where ever possible.

Overall success will be determined through maintenance and upgradation of these technologies.

The expansion of smart classrooms and ICT labs could help propel the entire region towards global recognition as a educational model. This endeavour isn’t just an educational upgrade to infrastructure, but an investment on behalf of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, and by extension the nation.
