A revival of confidence

The Centre’s recent report that Jammu and Kashmir received 7.65 crore domestic tourists and 1.47 lakh foreign visitors in the past five years is a strong endorsement of the region’s growing popularity as a world-class travel destination.

These figures indicate, not only the timeless fascination of Kashmir’s magnificent nature and cultural diversity, but importantly the success of an ongoing campaign to restore normalcy in the region, frame the appropriate infrastructure under enabling regional conditions, and promote tourism under peace and stability.

The returns from increased visitor numbers, both domestic and international, demonstrates a renewed sense of hope and faith in the region, safety, hospitality, and most importantly welcome.

Administering and even enhancing security arrangements, while improving standards of services and basic functions, have given tourists an opportunity to experience the magnificent valleys of Kashmir, pristine lakes, snow-dusted mountains and so much more without the worry and fear of undesirable incidents.

Tourism dominates the economic landscape in Jammu and Kashmir. There are thousands of people who rely on tourism based jobs in hospitality, handicrafts, transport and other businesses.

The arrival of close to 8 crore tourists in 5 years charges local economies and creates jobs while creating new entrepreneurs.

The ‘Back to the Village’ initiative, and local homestay programs are just one of the many ways rural communities are unlocking developments in the tourism sector even in the most secluded areas.

The arrival of 1.47 lakh foreign visitors indicates that Kashmir is once again an international location. Improved air connectivity, better roads, and more world-class amenities than any others place us again on the world map.

With the government pushing film tourism, adventure sports tourism, and eco-tourism, we will see year-round tourism and contribute to the tourism industry’s diversification.

The number of tourists is not only a number, but our tourism number reflects hope, progress, and the immune spirit of Jammu and Kashmir.

The future of Jammu and Kashmir is brighter than ever and is coming alive as a peaceful place where development is happening, and change is real on the ground.  As we continue to welcome visitors to the region, the world is noticing the difference.
