Khatana urges reopening of trekking routes

Srinagar, Jul 10: Member of Parliament (MP) Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Ali Khatana, on Thursday said Jammu and Kashmir is on the path of prosperity under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Addressing a gathering at the inaugural ceremony of ‘Bharat Sanrachna J&K-2025’ at SKICC, Khatana praised LG Sinha for doing a “tremendous” job, leading to the progress and prosperity of the region.

“In the last 30 years, the people across Jammu and Kashmir have faced distress. But, you have managed to change the scenario by ensuring the students attend their schools,” he said, adding that under LG Sinha’s leadership, an event like G20 took place here, while the free and fair elections too are appreciable.

“We are happy to witness the progress under your leadership. The elected government should also work on the ground,” he said in the presence of the Lieutenant Governor.

The MP appealed to the LG to reopen the trekking spots for the well-being of the people. “As the Law & Order falls under your (LG) jurisdiction, the trekking routes should be reopened again for the people, who have started homestays and other things. We expect the reopening of these routes from you,” he said.

About the event, he said that on the first day, a large number of students from different schools participated. “This event was scheduled earlier, but was delayed due to the Pahalgam terror attack,” he said.

Khatana further said that Kashmir is an integral part of India, so the youth of J&K should not lag behind. “Therefore, this event was a must for creating awareness among them with an aim to make them employment generators,” he said.

Responding to a query on National Conference’s (NC) demand on July 13—Martyrs’ Day, Khatana said there are many schools in the name of martyrs who belong to the whole nation. (KNO)
