Reinforcing tourism

In a landmark decision epitomizing Jammu and Kashmir’s spirit of resilience, the Lt. Governor took the initiative to reopen 16 tourist destinations in the Union Territory on Saturday. By reopening these sites, authorities are motivated to revitalize the tourism industry, which has been temporarily shaken from April 22, when a deadly terror incident occurred in Pahalgam.

The administration acted quickly, but still cautiously, projecting the reopening of these areas, which consists of eight sites each in the Jammu Division and the Srinagar area. The will is to bring things back to normal, kick start the economy and send the message that the spirit of J&K will not be snuffed out by the manifestations of terrorism.

Tourism is the lifeblood of Jammu and Kashmir, with the livelihood of countless individuals relying on tourism and promoting the region’s unparalleled natural beauty to the world.

The closing down of the tourist areas was a temporary, precautionary measure to keep both tourists and locals safe, while now – beginning the reopening process – suggests that the administration is ultimately counting on the reestablished confidence in the security environment and projecting J&K as a warm and welcoming place for tourists.

Credit is due to Lt. Governor Sinha for his leadership in this case.

This is very much an exercise around the reopening of parks and places for tourists; it is also about the reopening of avenues for local artisans, hotels, transporters, and many other people whose livelihoods depend on tourism, and restoring these benefits. More so, it is about proving the solidarity of the Government with the people of J&K, and their quest for peace and prosperity.

The influx of tourists will also lead to larger cultural exchanges resolution promoting facts about J&K being an integral, peaceful part of India.  A potent combination of extreme enthusiasm and drive by the administration, and the spirit of the people will send a strong message demonstrating that terrorism could never define the future of this region.

People from every corner of this country and across the world will be ours to welcome as we open the gates to these sixteen locations all at once. Let us revel in the splendour of Jammu and Kashmir, assist its people, and work together to break down the chains of everyone trying to disrupt our state. Actings on both the direction of Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha will provide an entirely new beginning filled with hope and opportunity in the region.
