Habitual peddler booked in Sopore

Srinagar, June 12: In its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking, Police in Sopore on Thursday said to have booked a chronic drug peddler under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS) and lodged him in Kishtwar Jail.
The accused, Farooq Ahmed Mir, son of Abdul Rasheed Mir, resident of Adipora Sopore, had been persistently involved in narcotics trafficking despite multiple FIRs and arrests, a police spokesman said.
“His continued activities posed a serious threat to public health and youth safety. Following detailed dossier preparation and sanction by the competent authority, the accused was detained under PIT NDPS Act provisions aimed at incapacitating repeat offenders and curbing the local drug supply chain,” the statement added.
“This decisive action is part of the unwavering commitment of J&K Police to dismantle the drug ecosystem and protecting the future of youth. Police urges the public to continue extending support and share any information that can help root out this menace,” the statement reads.
