Three exceptional girls from Kashmir will be entering the history books for eternity – they have made history by successfully cracking the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) and securing seats at the IITs.
These girls have accomplished a feat that they will cherish on a personal level, but also at a societal level this is a monumental time for Jammu and Kashmir, because for the first time in history any girl from Kashmir has accomplished this impressive achievement.
Yes, it is a monumental feat displaying persistence, skill and the unwavering spirit of the youth of Kashmir. The student community of the valley, for numerous years, has been facing unique challenges, such as no coaching centres, lack of equipment, and family and social environments that kept girls away from extremely challenging walks of life such as engineering.
So in light of the tremendous pressure, these three young achievers have come through the roadblocks of life based on their hard work and determination.
This is an excellent example of how education can change lives. This is a powerful example of hope to all girls across Kashmir, and across the length and breadth of India – the sky is the limit, dreams should have no reckoning, and if allowed to receive opportunities and encouragement, they can shine in one of the most difficult walks of life.
Their success story should foster in policymakers, a belief in the need for greater investment in education, mentorship and multi layered infrastructure in marginalized areas, so that these minds can be nurtured rather than left to die amid tough circumstances.
These students represent not just role models for aspiring engineers of the future, but also champions for any young person trying to escape adversities.
Such stories should be cherished and echoed throughout our nation. These young women are not simply students looking to gain entrance into IIT, they are pioneers with a hundred thousand footsteps behind them and thousands upon thousands yet to take.
The very success of these women offers glimmers of hope and a clarion call-create an educational system, so that a child can, regardless of gender or location can walk in confidence to risk dreaming and deliver the impossible.
To the three women achievers, your achievement inspires Kashmir and inspires a nation, and reminds us that the future belongs to those who dare to break down walls.
