Udhampur, May 31: In a sustained offensive against drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized contraband worth 2.07 crore and arrested 62 accused over the past five months in Udhampur district, officials said on Saturday.
According to an official spokesperson, the Udhampur police registered 44 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Public Safety Act (PSA), tightening the noose around narcotic smugglers and peddlers operating in the region.
Key Highlights of the Crackdown: 62 individuals arrested in connection with drug-related offenses. 16 vehicles used for drug transportation seized. Four pharmacy shops sealed for violating norms related to Schedule H1 drugs.
35 bank accounts frozen, holding a combined total of ₹16.70 lakh, linked to known drug peddlers. Properties worth 4.19 crore attached in NDPS and cattle smuggling cases.
The spokesperson further noted that in addition to seizures and arrests, legal action has yielded convictions in 20 separate cases, resulting in 27 drug peddlers being held accountable by the courts.
This multi-pronged action, combining law enforcement with financial disruption, underscores the J&K Police’s zero-tolerance policy towards the drug menace, and aims to dismantle the entire supply chain from traffickers to street-level peddlers. (KINS)
