Srinagar, May 23: Continuing its drive against drug menace, Police on Friday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Kupwara and Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police party of Police Station Kupwara at a checkpoint established at Main Road Tikker near Radio Station Kupwara, arrested a drug peddler identified as Shahzad Ahmad Sheikh son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh resident of Kupwara, a police spokesman said.
During the search, a substantial amount of Charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the accused was engaged in illicit drug trafficking for petty monetary gains, the statement added.
Meanwhile in Sopore, a Police team arrested a drug peddler at Chankan Sopore, checkpoint. He has been identified as Zubair Ahmad Fafu son of Abdul Rasheed Fafu, resident of Nowhaman Sopore. During the search, 12 strips (96 capsules) of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus, a banned psychotropic substance, were recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, police said that cases have been registered under relevant sections of law at respective Police Stations and investigations have been initiated.
Police reiterated its unwavering resolve to combat the drug menace and uphold the rule of law. Strong legal action will continue to be taken against individuals involved in such anti-social activities, the statement said.
