Strengthening mental health resources

The NIMHANS Digital Academy (NDA) presently is collaborating with Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen the scope of mental health service delivery across those areas. This is crucial to begin to level the playing field when it comes to mental health service delivery to ensure that quality care is provided throughout the area, and in the most remote areas as well.

Mental health from a public health perspective has always been relegated to the background, while monitoring population level infrastructure accessibility for millions to get presented to care in a timely fashion.

These partnerships with the NDA will go towards addressing barriers with an endeavour to use digital technologies to train health care providers on diagnosing cases, and then perhaps to access care and treatment as well.

Both the regions will work with NIMHANS, as a premier institution internationally for mental health and neurosciences disciplines, to deliver complex and sophisticated didactic training via telemedicine, and community based models, for clinical interventions. This will provide a local opportunity for practitioners to change their roles as mental health providers. Mental health services will be accessible to communities and have the opportunity to be effective.

Appreciation for the digital approach here is meaningful and appreciated! Digital platforms have the chance to span hundreds of kilometres to provide educational and clinical service delivery to remote and isolated professionals and families.

Moreover, creating primary care linkage to mental health, could assist with destigmatizing mental illness, how it manifested, and is posited to be in some way in community mind and spirit, enabling more opportunity for doing something.

This collaboration is consistent with the National Mental Health Policy and Ayushman Bharat program by supporting and strengthening the idea of holistic healthcare in India. These types of collaborations will gradually build healthy and resilient, which will be supported by the growing awareness of mental health.

Kudos to NDA for their work, and anything that furthers that work. Thinking innovatively and collaborating, makes mental health a priority and is India’s progressive step towards inclusive well-being.
