Srinagar, May 06: In continuation of its ongoing drive against illegal mining, Police in Awantipora on Tuesday said to have seized five vehicles used in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals and arrested their drivers in Wuyan and Khrew areas.
A Police party of Police Station Khrew have seized five vehicles (tippers and dumpers) bearing registration numbers JK01F-6266, JK01H-425, JK04C-5897, JK13C-1869 & JK02BC-4548 and arrested their drivers for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, a police spokesman said.
They have been identified as Ashraf Kuttan son of Abdullah resident of Panthachowk Srinagar, Mudasir Wani son of Mohd Akbar resident of Panthachowk Srinagar, Hazim Manzoor Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat resident of Sharshali, Shahid Ahmad Teli son of Farooq Ahmad Teli resident of Khrew and Rameez Ahmad Khanday son of Ab Majeed Khanday resident of Ladhoo.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in Police Station Khrew and investigation has been initiated.
