Srinagar, Mar 13: Senior Trade Union Leader and President Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) Jammu and Kashmir, Fayaz Ahmad Shabnam Thursday welcomed the constitution of the committee under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Atul Duloo for the regularisation of the daily wagers.
In a statement issued here, he hailed the decision of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and said that the issue needs immediate disposal and also cautioned that the exercise should not be for the sake of exercise.
Shabnam said that the government should implement the Minimum Wages Act in favour of the daily wagers of all types as is implemented in the other states of the country, especially Ladakh.
The EJAC president said that the different governments from time to time have been talking about the issue but nothing concrete has been done so far.
The daily wagers have been suffering and their families are starving so the government, especially the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, strongly appealed to implement the Minimum Wages Act as a relief to the daily wagers till their regularisation.
They can heave a sigh of relief in these hard days when the prices are skyrocketing and these employees will work with more diligence and improve the work culture, he said.
