Bandipora, March 7: Taking a firm stand on connectivity, MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat has once again reiterated the demand for National Highway status for the Sumbal-Bandipora-Gurez Road (128 km)—a crucial lifeline for thousands in North Kashmir. He has also sought firm commitment from the government on another vital link, Sangrama-Bandipora Road (78 km).
During the March 25 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session, Bhat pressed the government on the urgent need for improved road infrastructure in Bandipora district.In response, the concerned ministry confirmed that the demand has been officially communicated to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for further consideration.
However, Bhat has gone a step further, directly appealing to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite the approval process.He emphasized that upgrading this key route to National Highway status is not merely about connectivity but a critical step toward economic growth, regional integration and ending the isolation of Bandipora and Gurez.
“We have been persistently pushing for this demand because it is a necessity, not a luxury.The highway will unlock economic opportunities, strengthen trade and improve accessibility for our people.I call upon the government to recognize the urgency of this issue and act swiftly. The public must also acknowledge the relentless efforts being made in their interest,” Bhat stated.
Sumbal-Bandipora-Gurez Road serves as a vital artery for students, traders and daily commuters and its upgradation will play a pivotal role in boosting trade, tourism, and strategic mobility in the region.
With the matter now under active consideration, all eyes are on the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.Bhat has reassured the people that he will not rest until this demand is fulfilled.There is growing optimism that MLA Nizamuddin Bhat’s persistent advocacy and leadership will soon bring a long-awaited transformation to the Bandipora-Gurez region.
