6 peddlers arrested in Ang, Sopore: Police

Srinagar, Jan 10: In a series of successful operations against drug trafficking, police on Friday said to have arrested six peddlers in Anantnag and Sopore, recovering significant quantities of psychotropic substances and contraband.
In Anantnag, during a naka check at Halmulla Sangam, a Wagon-R vehicle (JK01M-4136) with three occupants was intercepted. A search revealed 21 bottles of Codeine Phosphate. The accused, identified as Javid Ahmad Sheikh of Kuchmulla Tral, Mohd Altaf Sheikh of Kanihama Nowgam Srinagar, and Mohd Haroon Parry of Charsoo Awantipora, were arrested. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized, a police spokesman said.
In another operation, a truck (JK01AS-5073) belonging to Jupiter Cargo Transport Company was stopped for inspection at Jablipora NHW near Fruit Mandi. The search led to the recovery of 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate. The driver, Javaid Ahmad Shah, and the conductor, Shabir Ahmad Shah, both residents of Bahoo Awantipora, were taken into custody, and the truck was seized, police said.
In Sopore, a police team intercepted Shakir Ahmad Sheikh of Noorbagh Baramulla at Naidhal Crossing. A search revealed 32.3 grams of charas-like substance and 64 SpasmoProxyvon Plus capsules. The accused was arrested and remains in custody, police said.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations, and investigations are underway. The police urge the public to report drug-related activities to assist in creating a drug-free society.
