Ignorance among the common people of Kashmir is by far the biggest hurdle in the fight against cyber crimes. Most of the frauds associated with online jobs, loan schemes, and scams regarding online shopping, however, are rooted in ignorance. The valley has issues of security in terms of economy and social order; all of these conditions make this layer all the more complicated.
It could result in very severe monetary or security risks along with mental trauma or stress. Whether it is online fraud and identity theft, cyber-harassment, or data breach, it is high time that authorities, not forgetting the people themselves, take proactive measures to curb the increasing incidence of cyber crimes within Kashmir.
Digital platforms are now being changed from purposes meant for communication and progress into channels that are filled with hate, blowing misinformation, and radical ideas.
Others are also vastly deprived of digital literacy, while many Kashmiris lack knowledge of basic measures on online safety, such as having a strong password, identifying phishing attempts, and avoiding suspicious links.
To counter the escalating cyber crime menace in Kashmir, a comprehensive multi-dimensional strategy is needed: for example, awareness intervention among the masses concerning risk in the digital world; preparation of schools, children, and community training relevant to colleges, which has narrowed down the perception of the child learning digital literacy so that they grows up to understand that online privacy is crucial and share personal information on the internet and means of prevention from scams and identity theft.
Establishing specialized cyber crime units with quality training and equipment is equally important among initiatives by the government.
With digital literacy investment, strengthened capacities of law enforcement agencies along with coordination across sectors, protection against cyber crimes in Kashmir will, in its own way, be established.
There is simply this way through which the region guarantees that the digital future will be safe and all its gains will be enjoyed without any harm for all its citizens.
