Srinagar: Senior Congress leader and MLA Dooru, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, urged the central government to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
He said it is a fundamental right and a promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during past election campaigns. Mir questioned the delay, asking if the people of J&K were being punished for not supporting the BJP.
“The Prime Minister himself assured us in meetings and election rallies that statehood would be restored after the elections. What’s stopping him now?” Mir asked, highlighting the government’s unfulfilled promise.
He said that the people elected leaders they believed could address their concerns, and the Prime Minister should respect his promise and honor the aspirations of the people.
Mir said that restoring statehood is not just a governance issue but also about respecting the dignity and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
