Srinagar, Nov 29: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police on Friday said to have arrested six drug peddlers in Budgam, Ganderbal&Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Budgam, a police party of PS Magam during Naka checking at Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Magam intercepted two suspicious persons carrying Nylon bags who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said.
During the search, 11 grams of Heroin-like substance and a digital weighing machine was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Parray son of Ali MohdParray resident of Hardu-MalporaBeerwah&Aamir Farooq Wani son of Farooq Ahmed Wani resident of ArathBudgam, police said.
Similarly, a Police Party led by SHO PS Chadoora accompanied by I/C PP Mochewa at a checkpoint established at SheikhporaWathoora Crossing and apprehended one suspicious person carrying a nylon bag, police said.
During the search, 07 sticks of charas like substance weighing about 230 grams wrapped in Corn Maize husk and 1.1Kgs of semi-grinded powder-like substance apparently charas was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Irfan Amin Sheikh son of Mohammad Amin Sheikh resident of DooniwariChadoora, police added.
“In Sopore, a police party of Police Station Panzalla headed by SHO PS Panzalla under the supervision of SDPO Rafiabad Shri. Aabid Rashid Mir-JKPS during naka checking at ChekGujriRohama apprehended two persons. During search, 45 grams of charas like substance and 88 tablets of SpasmoProxyvon Plus from their possession. They have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Malla son of Habib-u-llahMalla and Mohammad RafiqHajam son of Ghulam Mohammad Hajam, both residents of RohamaRafiabad,” the spokesman said.
In Ganderbal, Police Station Ganderbal received information through reliable sources that one person namely Nazir Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Ahmad Khan resident of Khan MohallaArhama has concealed contraband at his residential home located at Arhama. Upon the receipt of the information, a special Police team was constituted who along with Executive Magistrate 1st Class raided the residential house of the accused. During search, 2.9 Kgs of Bhang was recovered and the accused was arrested on the spot, police added.
All the accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated, police said.
“General Public is requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per the law,” police said.
