Srinagar, Nov23: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said to have arrested six drug peddlers in Sopore, Kupwara& Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Sopore, a police party headed by In-charge Police Post Fruit Mandi under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Shri Sarfaraz Bashir-JKPS and SHO Police Station Sopore at a checkpoint established near Fruit MandiSopore apprehended three persons, a police spokesman said.
They have been identified as MohsinManzoorGojree son of Manzoor Ahmad Gojree resident of NoorbaghSoporeImtiyaz Ahmad Najar son of Ghulam ud Din Najar resident of Nowpora Kalan Sopore and Ali Mohammad Lara son of Mohammad Amin Lara resident of New Colony Sopore.
During the search, 20 grams of contraband brown sugar like substance was recovered from their possession, police said.
Meanwhile in Kupwara, a police party of Police Post Khurhama at a checkpoint established at T-Chowk Kuligam intercepted a suspicious person identified as Aijaz Ahmad Khan son of Gh Hassan resident of DudiDapal A/P GagalLolab. During search, 72 grams of charas-like substance wrapped in corn husk was recovered from his possession, police said.
In Baramulla, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at BandiCrossing, intercepted a person identified as Faizal Ahmad Khan son of Reyaz Ahmad resident of Paranpeelan. During the search, 30 grams of charas and 1.5 Kgs of cannabis powder like substances were recovered from his possession, the statement reads.
Similarly, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at VeerwanBaramulla, intercepted a person identified as Farooq Ahmad Lone son of Ali Mohd resident of HeewanSheeri. During the search, 50 grams of charas like contraband substance was recovered from his possession, police said.
All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation has been initiated, police spokesman said.
“General Public is requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per the law,” the statement added.
