Children’s Day: TLSC organizes programme in Bijbehara

Anantnag: Tehsil Legal Services Committee Bijbehara Thursday organized a programme regarding Children’s Day at Government Boys Model Higher Secondary School Bijbehara.
The programme was organized under the aegis of Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority and under the directions of District Legal Services Authority Anantnag in which Chairman TLSC in addition to Secretary DLSA Anantnag Muzamil Ahmad Wani, Tehsildar Bijbehara Nusrat Aziz, SP operation Anantnag Furqan Qadir, Mudasir Ahmad Naikoo President Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Forum HQ-Delhi JK UT, Adil Mustafa Bhat Secretary HRACF Tehsil Social Welfare Officer, Dr. Mehnaz President Bar Association Bijbehara Imam Khurshid Mujeeb Afzal participated.
The programe highlighted the importance of children’s day and need for observance of same.
In the opening remarks by Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Bijbehara Tabassum Qadir Parray highlighted about the important of the day and theme for this year’s Children’s Day, which being giving love, affection & attention to children emphasized the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment where children feel protected and valued.
She elaborated on the legal responsibilities that both parents and society hold to prevent exploitation and abuse, particularly stressing the role of the Child Welfare Committees and Childline services, which offer immediate support for children facing distress. She encouraged students to reach out to trusted adults, teachers, or authorities if they ever feel threatened or encounter situations of abuse or neglect.
She underscored the need for community awareness and legal literacy programs to ensure that every child and family understands these rights and protections.
In his Presidential Address, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Muzamil Ahmad Wani emphasized the need of such events and made it clear that wherever a child needs any forum of support be it legal, social & economic, District Legal Services Authority Anantnag is always ready to come forward.
He emphasized that children have specific legal protections under Indian law, such as the right to education, protection from exploitation, and the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
He stressed that these rights form the foundation for children’s development and are essential for creating a just society. Wani highlighted landmark laws such as the Right to Education Act (RTE), which ensures free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, which provides comprehensive safeguards against sexual abuse and exploitation. He encouraged students to be aware of these rights and assured them of the DLSA’s unwavering support in ensuring these protections are enforced.
He also spoke on the importance of eradicating practices like child labor and the need for children to be empowered through education. He shared insights on the Juvenile Justice Act, which provides a robust framework for handling cases involving children in conflict with the law and children in need of care and protection, ensuring that their rights are upheld within the judicial process.
The event’s highlight was the commitment from DLSA Anantnag and TLSC Bijbehara to work tirelessly toward ensuring that every child in the community has access to their legal rights and the support they need to grow in a safe and just environment. The legal insights shared reinforced the essential message that children’s rights are not merely principles but are enforceable laws designed to safeguard their dignity, opportunities, and well-being.
The programme ended with distribution of certificates and momentos to meritorious students of the area including the students who have recently qualified prestigious KAS & NEET.
The programme ended with Vote of Thanks by Principal Government Boys Model Higher Secondary School Bijbehara.
