Srinagar: Pandemonium broke out in the Legislative Assembly on Friday when Peoples Democratic Party MLA Mir Muhammad Fayaz and Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone entered into a scuffle with BJP lawmakers who tried to snatch a banner from them.
As soon as the House assembled on Friday, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJP MLA Sunil Sharma stood up and started speaking against the special status resolution passed by the House on Wednesday.
As Sharma was speaking, PDP and PC MLAs raised the banner demanding unconditional restoration of the Article 370 and 35A, enraging BJP lawmakers.
The BJP lawmakers, donning tricolour mufflers, tried to snatch the banner from Mir but he resisted and entered into physical confrontation with them.
Lone came out in support of Fayaz and himself entered into the scuffle with BJP lawmakers before Marshals separated them.
Soon BJP legislators resorted to massive anti-PDP and anti- PC sloganeering.
In the meantime, the Awami Itehaad Party (AIP) legislator from Langate, Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh entered into the Well of the House in support of Fayaz and Sajad. However, he was marshaled out from the House.
The BJP legislators continued their protests and entered into the Well of the House, prompting the Speaker to direct Marshals to evict them. “Don’t allow them to enter the House,” the Speaker told Marshals.
The Marshals evicted 13 BJP MLAs from the House. Soon the remaining BJP lawmakers staged out a walkout against eviction of their fellow legislators from the House. (KNO)
