Srinagar: The Omar Abdullah-led Jammu and Kashmir government would likely table a resolution against the removal of Article-370, in the maiden session of the Legislative Assembly, slated to be held in November.
The Article-370 that gave semi-autonomy to J&K was revoked by the NDA led government in August 2019.
This resolution, once moved, will be one of the important elements of the NC’s manifesto in the recently concluded legislative assembly polls. The grand old party emerged as the single largest party in the recently concluded polls followed by the BJP with 29 seats that have come from Jammu Division itself, according to the Associated News Bureau (ANB).
Jammu & Kashmir L-G Manoj Sinha has called the session of the Legislative Assembly on November 4.
According to sources in the ruling party, the NC leadership was determined to move the resolution on Article 370 in the house in the first session.
We will deliver what we promised in our manifesto, said a senior NC leader who is also an MLA.
The resolution to be moved by the government in the 90-member lower house will mark the first formal opposition to the August 2019 decision by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the Parliament.
However, the resolution once passed doesn’t have any legal binding on the union government. (ANB)
