CM Omar meets Amit Shah, seeks Statehood restoration

To meet PM Modi today, submit cabinet’s resolution

Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reached New Delhi on Wednesday, where he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the evening.
The J&K Chief  Minister would also meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and would likely submit the resolution passed in the first cabinet meeting after assuming the office of the first Chief Minister of J&K UT.
This is Omar’s first visit to New Delhi after he was sworn in as the chief minister of J&K.
“Omar Abdullah will submit the resolution passed by the J&K Cabinet seeking the restoration of statehood to the Prime Minister during his meeting with him tomorrow,” sources said.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi this evening.
The timing of the meeting comes amid heightened focus on Jammu and Kashmir following recent political shifts.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister in a post on X, firmerly twitter, said that during the meeting, he has emphasized the urgent need for the reinstatement of Statehood.
He also said that the half-hour meeting was productive.
“Met with the Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah Ji earlier today in #newdelhi I emphasized the urgent need for the reinstatement of statehood during our meeting. Additionally, I brought to light the various challenges faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It was a productive half-hour discussion that shed light on the current situation and the path forward,” Omar said in a post on X.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister is also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow, marking a continuation of high-level talks with the Centre.
J&K Cabinet headed by Omar Abdullah passed the resolution for restoration of statehood on October 17 and also authorised the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the Prime Minister and the Centre.
J&K was divided into two union territories of J&K and Ladakh following the abrogation of article 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019.
J&K remained without an elected government for five years till September 2024 when legislative Assembly elections followed the Lok Sabha elections here.
