Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, in collaboration with Life Foundation and Whispers of Ink, Thursday inaugurated a calligraphy event featuring a 7-day workshop and exhibition at Life School.
The event, aimed at celebrating and promoting the ancient art of calligraphy, attracted a gathering of dignitaries and art enthusiasts, underscoring the cultural significance of the art form.
Suresh Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary of the Department of Culture and Administrative Secretary of Education, delivered a keynote address, highlighting the role of calligraphy in preserving cultural identity.
He praised the Academy for organizing the event and emphasized the need to revive this heritage. Gupta further noted that such skills can open new livelihood opportunities for the younger generation, as the resurgence of calligraphy could attract art lovers and boost tourism by offering a unique cultural experience for visitors.
Among the dignitaries present were Rakesh Magotra, Regional Director of Samagra Shiksha; Abdul Hamid Fani, Joint Director of School Education, J&K; Rajiv Abrol, CEO Budgam; Farooq Anwar Mirza, Divisional Officer Kashmir at the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages; Nazrul Islam Baba, Chairman of Life Foundation, and other notable guests.
The workshop will offer participants hands-on experience in calligraphy, fostering a deeper appreciation of the art. Whispers of Ink and Life Foundation aim to continue promoting artistic expression and preserving cultural heritage through such events.
