Srinagar: The two-day International Conference on Culture, Values, and Ethics & World Poetry, organized by the Department of English at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Mahavidyalaya, Aundh, Pune, in collaboration with the International Academy of Ethics (IAE), Chandigarh, concluded with a strong call for ethical renewal in modern living.
The conference, attended by over 140 scholars and poets from across India, emphasized the urgent need to address the moral void in today’s civilization.
In his keynote, Dr. Maja Herman Sekulic, the world-renowned poet and scholar from Serbia-US and Conference Chair, stressed that “ethics is crucial for the survival of humanity.” Dr. Jernail S. Anand, President of IAE, echoed this sentiment by advocating for the introduction of a “Fourth R” in education—Raciocination (clear thinking)—to foster ethical and metaphysical understanding alongside traditional learning.
The conference attracted notable speakers, including Dr. Dragan Stanic, President of Matica SPRASKA (Serbian Motherbee), who underscored the importance of re-centering modern civilization on ethics.
Dr. Kalpana Purohit, in her keynote address, highlighted the role of literature as a medium to impart enduring values, morals, and empathy, especially in times of global chaos and conflict.
The event featured multiple plenary sessions, with scholars and poets presenting papers and engaging in thought-provoking discussions. The first day concluded with the release of Dr. Jernail S. Anand’s ‘Philosophia de Anand’, a magnum opus of his philosophical works, along with other notable releases including ‘Winged Monologues’ by Dr. Tamali Neogi.
On the second day, the World Poetry Conference took center stage, with esteemed poets sharing their work in sessions chaired by prominent figures like Dr. Laksmisree Banerjee and Dr. Bina Singh. The conference concluded with a cultural extravaganza and valedictory function, where Dr. Anand thanked the participants and organizers for the successful execution of the academic and cultural event.
The conference also recognized several individuals for their contributions to literature and ethics, including Nasir Aijaz, CEO of Sindh Courier, and Dr. Tamali Neogi, who received the Academy Award for Debut Work in Poetry. The awards celebrated the work of scholars and poets from around the world, acknowledging their dedication to promoting ethics through art and literature.
The event was a blend of intellectual discourse, artistic expression, and cultural celebration, leaving a lasting impact on all attendees.
