SKIMS welcomes new MBBS batch of 125 students

Srinagar: The Director of SKIMS and Principal of SKIMS Medical College welcomed the new medical graduates for the academic year 2024-25 during a ceremony organized by SKIMS Medical College, Bemina today.
A total of 125 students joined the prestigious medical college after successfully qualifying in a rigorous national-level competitive exam.
In his address, Director SKIMS/Principal SKIMS MC, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, warmly welcomed the students and expressed his compassion for their achievements. He congratulated them on facing the competitive examination and becoming part of the noble profession of medicine.
Prof. Ashraf urged the students to uphold the reputation of the institute and advised them to work hard, learn best medical practices, and adhere to the ethical standards of SKIMS MC.
He highlighted that SKIMS MC, as one of the top medical schools in the country, has made immense contributions to the health sector and serves as a vital source of human resources.
Prof. Ashraf also acknowledged the faculty’s contributions in shaping the future of medical students and expressed pride in the SKIMS MC alumni who have brought accolades to the institution through their excellent performance and exemplary work.
Dr. Ajaz A. Rather, from the Department of Surgery and Registrar of Academics at SKIMS MC, traced the history of the medical college and highlighted its activities and contributions to patient care and academics since its inception in 1989.
HoD Ophthalmology, Prof. Sheikh Sajad, Medical Superintendent SKIMS MC, Dr. Shifa Deva, and HoD SPM, Prof. Ashfaq, emphasized the importance of discipline and punctuality in their addresses.
While appreciating the hard work, merit, and dedication of the students, they advised them to remain focused and guard the institution’s reputation.
In addition to the oath ceremony, a session on ragging was held, where experts highlighted the dos and don’ts of ragging. They encouraged students to reach out to the SKIMS MC redressal committee for any grievances.
An anti-ragging control room has also been established, comprising members such as Chairman Prof. Asif A. Wani, HOD; Dr. Ashfaq ul Hassan, HOD Anatomy; Er. Showkat A. Simnani, A.E.E. Civil; and the Officer In Charge of the Security/Control Room.
To make the event vibrant for the freshers, an anti-ragging poster competition was organized, inviting various participants to propose the best anti-ragging solutions.
The first three winners were awarded certificates and prizes: Sheikh Aiman (Batch 2021), Junaid Ahmad Baba (Batch 2021), Syed Rimsha Andrabi, and Dania Tehseen (Batch 2021).
The oath was administered by Dr. Beenish, as the event was organized by the Department of SPM. The students pledged to uphold the spirit of the oath, which sets the standards of conduct in the medical profession.
The event was organized by SKIMS Medical College, with the organizing team including Dr. Sajad Rather (Organizing Chairman & Registrar Academics), Dr. Ashafaq (Organizing Secretary & HOD SPM), Dr. Beenish (Assistant Professor, Department of SPM), and Dr. Anzeela (Senior Resident, Department of Community Medicine).
