Srinagar: Senior BJP leader Ram Madhav has revealed that Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood will be reinstated, but with certain conditions.
In an interview, Madhav emphasized that the BJP has publicly committed to restoring statehood “on the floor of the House”. However, when pressed for a specific timeline, he adopted a more cautious stance.
The region has undergone significant transformations over the past decade, shedding its militant-driven identity and embracing relative peace, Madhav noted.
Ram Madhav as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust cited Jamaat’s participation in the electoral process as a remarkable achievement. To ensure the persistence of peace, Madhav stressed the importance of regional leaders providing guarantees against the resurgence of separatist movements.
“For full statehood to be possible, those in power in J&K must reassure Delhi that they won’t revive separatist tendencies,” Madhav stated. This assurance is crucial for the Center to consider granting full statehood. [KNT]
