Baramulla: In a significant political shift, National Conference (NC) candidate Irshad Kar has emerged victorious in the Sopore Assembly seat with a huge margin, breaking previous electoral trends in the region.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Kar’s win marks the end of the reign of two-time MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, who suffered a major defeat.
Irshad secured 26, 783 votes, while Mursaleen Aajir secured 6, 563 thus trails by 20, 220 votes. INC’s Dar managed to secure 5, 127 votes only.
Mursaleen Aajir, an independent candidate backed by the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), finished as the runner-up in what was a highly anticipated electoral contest.
Speaking to reporters after the victory, Irshad Kar promised to bring an end to the “misgovernance” that, according to him, has plagued Sopore over the past decade.
He expressed his commitment to focusing on the development and betterment of the region, vowing to address the long-standing issues faced by its residents—(KNO)
