SMC launches dog catching drive in Ward 33

Srinagar: In response to the increasing incidents of dog bites, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Ward 33 has launched an extensive drive to catch stray dogs across several neighborhoods, including Humhamada, Gogo, Wawoosa, Rangreth, Wanabal and Hill View Colony.
The operation, led by the Ward Officer of Humhama Ward 33, has involved catching dozens of stray canines from different localities. “Dog catching is a very difficult task. Our teams go thrice into the field to catch dogs,” said the Ward Officer. He added that the drive is conducted in coordination with local residents and involves multiple teams, ensuring all procedures are followed. “We have to follow due process. We can’t go to random places to catch dogs. We hold meetings with locals and others before we go to a particular area,” he noted.
Other officers from Humhama Ward are also actively participating in the drive, providing necessary support to the team. The residents of Ward 33 have praised the efforts of the SMC, expressing relief over the proactive measures taken to ensure their safety. The community’s positive response highlights the significance of such initiatives in dealing with the challenges posed by stray animals.
