Srinagar: National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Thursday attributed the low voter turnout in Srinagar to the central government’s narrative that links high poll participation to normalcy in the region. Speaking to reporters in Uri, Baramulla, Omar Abdullah expressed his disappointment with the voter turnout during the second phase of the elections, stating it was below their expectations.
“I believe it is the fault of the central government for equating high poll percentage with normalcy and claiming it as the result of the abrogation of Article 370. The low voter turnout in Srinagar is a reaction to this narrative,” he remarked.
Omar Abdullah, however, remains hopeful for a higher turnout in the upcoming third phase of elections. “Despite the difficult situation, people in Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara have shown resilience by casting their votes. This time, we are expecting a strong voter turnout and are confident that the National Conference and Congress candidates will receive solid support,” he added.(KINS)
