Srinagar: In a bid to curb the spread of misinformation and unverified content, Cyber Police Kashmir issued an advisory for social media users and WhatsApp group admins on Thursday.
The advisory emphasized the need for responsible online behavior, warning against the dissemination of unverified or false information that could lead to unnecessary panic among the public.
“Posting or sharing unverified or unconfirmed news can lead to unnecessary panic and misinformation among the public. Refrain from spreading rumors or misinformation,” the advisory stated as per news agency KINS, urging all users to exercise caution before sharing content online.
The Cyber Police also reminded users and group admins of their responsibility in managing online platforms, particularly in sensitive regions like Kashmir, where false information can quickly escalate into broader social and security issues.
“Social media and WhatsApp groups play a critical role in information sharing, but with that comes the responsibility to verify the authenticity of the content being shared. We urge everyone to be vigilant and not contribute to the spread of fake news,” Cyber Police added.
Authorities have also warned that those found responsible for sharing misleading information could face legal consequences under the law. S
