JKP bags 50 Gallantry, meritorious service medals

Srinagar: J&K Police has bagged 50 medals for gallantry and meritorious services on the eve of 78th Independence Day.

According to the full list of awardees announced by the Union Home Ministry on Wednesday, a total of 50 personnel from J&K Police figure in the list of awardees.

As per details, two officers have been chosen for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Services.

As per details, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir (SSP) and Joginder Singh (SSP) have been awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Services.

According to details, 31 J&K Police personnel will be awarded medals for gallantry and 17 medals for meritorious services.

Director General of Police, J&K, R.R. Swain has congratulated the awardees and their families. In his message, he has said that this recognition is a testament to the J&K Police’s unwavering dedication, bravery, and commitment to serving the nation and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The DGP also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Jammu and Kashmir Administration for recognizing the valour and sacrifices of JKP. The acknowledgment is a motivation to strive for excellence and continue serving the nation with pride and passion.

The President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services has been awarded to SSP Imtiyaz Hussain Mir and SSP Joginder Singh.

Those who have been awarded with Jammu Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service are IGP Bhim Sen Tuti, SSP Zahid Naseem Manhas, SSP Ranjit Singh Sambyal, ASP Paramjeet Singh, DySP Kuldeep Handoo, DySP Naresh Kumar, Inspector Kamal Sangra, Inspector Bilal Ahmad Badar, Inspector (S) Syed Israr Ahmad, Sub-Inspector (M) Surinder Pandit, Sub-Inspector Shabir Ahmad Sheikh, Sub-Inspector Rajpaul Singh, ASI Mohammad Sarwar, ASI Deepak Bhat, ASI(T) Kulbushan Khajuria, HC Sarfa Ram, and HC Ram Paul.

Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service have been awarded to ADGP Nitish Kumar, DIG Shakti Kumar Pathak, DIG Ajeet Singh, DySP Manjeet Singh, Inspector Mir Zahid Hussain and ASI Abdul Ahad Qazi.

Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Nitish Kumar and Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Police Shakti Kumar Pathak and Ajeet Singh are among the six police personnel who have been awarded the  Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occassion of Independence Day.

Also, Indian Army’s Colonel Manpreet Singh, who lost his life in a confrontation with terrorists in  Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district last September, has been posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra on this Independence Day.

Three security personnel, including DySP of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Humayun Bhat, have been awarded Kirti Chakra on the eve of Independence Day.

Kirti Chakra is the second highest peacetime gallantry award. The fourth Kirti Chakra is awarded to Major Malla Rama Gopal Naidu.

Colonel Manpreet Singh was leading the 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Battalion when he died and was only four months away from completing his tenure with the RR.

A native of Bharonjian, a small village in Punjab near Chandigarh, Colonel Manpreet’s family resided in DLF, New Chandigarh.

He is survived by his wife, Jagmeet Grewal, an economics lecturer with the Haryana education department, and their two young children — a six-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter. Colonel Manpreet had served in the army for approximately 17 years. While his father, a former serviceman, had passed away, his mother was living with his children in New Chandigarh.
