DLSA Srinagar organizes Special Lok Adalat

Srinagar: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Srinagar organized a Special Lok Adalat for Criminal Compoundable Cases on August 10, 2024. In accordance with the J&K Legal Services Authority calendar for 2024, this special Lok Adalat was held to facilitate the amicable settlement of criminal compoundable cases. It took place at the District Court Complex Mominabad, Srinagar, under the direction of Hon’ble Justice Mr. Tashi Rabstan, Chief Justice (A) of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, and was supervised by Mr. Jawad Ahmed, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Srinagar.
Lok Adalats for criminal compoundable cases act as a transformative mechanism for resolving disputes and promoting social harmony. By providing a platform for amicable settlements, they contribute to a more just, peaceful, and equitable society. These adalats remain an integral part of the justice delivery system, offering prompt and affordable dispute resolution and helping to alleviate the burden on formal courts.
For this Lok Adalat, three benches were constituted. The First Bench was presided over by Ms. Mehreen Mushtaq (Municipal Magistrate, Srinagar) and Mr. Atzaz Ahmad (2nd Additional Munsiff/JMIC Srinagar). The Second Bench was led by Mr. Sajad Ur-Rehman (City Judge, Srinagar) and Mr. Shafeeq Ahmad Malik (1st Additional Munsiff/JMIC Srinagar). The Third Bench was chaired by Mr. Mudasar Farooq (Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic, Srinagar) and Mr. Raja Arshad Hamid (Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Traffic, Srinagar).
A total of 11 cases were addressed, with 6 cases settled amicably. The settlement amount awarded was Rs 2,86,00000.
