Srinagar: Kupwara’s Department of Fisheries, in collaboration with 56RR Machil, organized a one-day awareness camp on trout fish culture, focusing on its possibilities and challenges. The event was part of the public outreach initiative and saw the participation of 50 attendees, including Lt. Col. Saini, Assistant Director Fisheries Kupwara Dr. Salman Chalkoo, PRI members, and local youth.
Lt. Col. Saini welcomed the participants, emphasizing the importance of establishing fisheries in the Machil sector. Dr. Salman Chalkoo discussed the potential of trout culture in the region, assuring support under centrally sponsored schemes. He also highlighted the keen interest of Kupwara’s DDC, Ayushi Sudan, in engaging the youth of underprivileged areas in the fisheries sector.
The initiative was well-received, with five applications submitted on the spot for various fish culture projects. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Lt. Col. Saini and a field visit to potential sites for establishing trout units.
