DLSA Srinagar holds program on female foeticide, POCSO Act

Srinagar: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, in partnership with Government Higher Secondary School Mujgund Srinagar, conducted an impactful awareness program on Friday.

t, held at the school’s Legal Literacy Club, focused on key issues including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, female foeticide, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

The program, conducted under the guidance of Jawad Ahmed, Chairman of DLSA Srinagar, aimed to educate students about the importance of empowering girls and combating social evils like female foeticide.

The session saw active participation from the school principal, the in-charge teacher of the Legal Literacy Club, staff members of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Mujgund, as well as officials and para-legal volunteers from DLSA Srinagar.

Tasneem Kausar, Deputy LADC, emphasized the importance of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative and discussed the grave impact of female foeticide.

Advocate Nadiya addressed the POCSO Act, providing valuable information on child sexual abuse and students’ rights to report such incidents, ensuring they are aware of the legal protections available.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Sunila (JLA), DLSA Srinagar. The initiative aimed to empower students with crucial knowledge and encourage them to become proactive in promoting gender equality and safeguarding children from harm.
