Jammu: Union Minister for Geology and Mining Kishan Reddy today said that the government of India is collaborating with J&K State Government to explore and produce Lithium deposits identified in Reasi district of Union Territory.
Responding to a query raised by Shiv Sena MP from Mumbai South Lok Sabha Constituency in Maharashtra, the Union Minister informed the Rajya Sabha, that Geology and Mining department is collaborating with J&K State Government to further explore the lithium deposit identified in J&K.
Earlier, in February 2023, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) discovered 5.9 million tonnes of lithium in the Salal-Haimana area of the Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir. This was India’s first discovery of lithium, a critical raw material used in electric vehicle batteries, solar panels, and mobile phones. Officials say the lithium reserve in Reasi is of high quality. (KNO)
