Three Gamblers Arrested in Sopore, Stake Money Recovered

Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that they have arrested three gamblers in north Kashmir’s Sopore district and seized stake money from their possession.

As per the news agency CNS, a police spokesperson said, “Acting on specific information about gambling activities in the orchards of village Reban, a police party headed by Incharge PP Fruit Mandi under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir raided the specific spot and arrested three gamblers on the spot.”

They have been identified as Mohammad Akbar Sheikh son of Abdullah Sheikh, a resident of Hadipora, Sajad Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Kabir, a resident of Parrypora Hadipora and Bashir Ahmad Tantray son of Mohammad Subhan Tantray, a resident of Reban.

“Officers have seized stake money of ₹7160/- and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody,” said the police spokesperson.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 54/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Sopore and further investigation has been taken up, he added. (CNS)
