New Delhi, March 13: Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has given the green light to a proposal aimed at significantly expanding the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by adding three lakh cadet vacancies. This move comes in response to the growing demand for NCC enrollment from educational institutions across the nation.
Since its inception with just 20,000 cadets in 1948, the NCC is set to witness a substantial surge in its sanctioned strength, reaching a remarkable figure of 20 lakh cadets, thereby solidifying its position as the world’s largest uniformed youth organization. With the National Education Policy 2020 incorporating NCC as an elective subject, this expansion aligns with the aspirations of youth eager to play crucial roles as future leaders of the country.
The expansion strategy entails a balanced allocation of vacancies across all States and Union Territories, aiming to alleviate the waiting list of institutions aspiring for NCC affiliation. The plan also includes the establishment of four new Group Headquarters and the addition of two new NCC units.
A significant aspect of this expansion plan involves the proposal to enlist ex-servicemen as NCC instructors, leveraging their expertise and vast experience. This initiative not only ensures high-quality training for NCC cadets but also opens up employment avenues for veterans.
The move underscores a commitment to nurturing future leaders imbued with discipline, leadership, and a spirit of service. The NCC envisions making a transformative impact, fostering a culture where youth actively contribute to nation-building. This initiative seeks to expand the cohort of motivated, disciplined, and patriotic youth—referred to as the ‘Amrit Peedhi’—who will play pivotal roles in realizing the vision of a developed India.
