Stakeholders explore strategies
JAMMU, MARCH 12: Former bureaucrat and Advisor to PM, Amarjeet Sinha, along with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, attended the second day of a conference organized jointly by the Departments of Labour & Employment, Skill Development, and Mission Youth at the Convention Centre in Jammu.
The objectives of the conference were to build a comprehensive understanding of opportunities for employment creation in key sectors, analyze current interventions in various sectors, synthesize achievements and learning, and identify key impediments in the intervention. It also aimed to explore new sectors for creating an enabling environment that fosters the establishment of enterprises, accelerating rural growth, define outcomes for employment and enterprises in various sectors, and define strategies, protocols, and actions on the ground for various interventions.
Experts presented on various topics, including complementing growth through tech interventions, converging businesses via tech-enabled solutions, employment opportunities in the Cooperatives Department, an overview of credit flow in key self-employment sectors, opportunities and impediments, and the experience of the State Rural Livelihood Mission in fostering women-led enterprises through Self-Help Groups and Collectives.
Speaking on the second day of the two-day conference of experts on the theme of ‘Accelerating Employment Avenues through Entrepreneurship in J&K,’ Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo stated that the conference provided a platform for subject experts from different sectors, including local administration, academic institutions, financial organizations, and other stakeholders. He emphasized the UT’s performance in raising necessary infrastructure and formulating policies to attract investments for creating employment opportunities for local youth.
Dulloo further added that to meet the UT’s employment requirements and fulfill the evolving aspirations of youth, it needs to generate as many success stories of gainful enterprises as possible by enabling a suitable ecosystem. He called on stakeholders to simplify processes and be readily available to aspiring entrepreneurs for handholding and capacity building, stressing the importance of devising a strategy specific to the UT.
Referring to the New Central Sector Scheme for industrial development and the doubling of exports in the handicrafts sector, Dulloo highlighted their role in creating employment. In his keynote address, former bureaucrat and Advisor to PM, Amarjeet Sinha, described J&K as a treasure that could be turned into an entrepreneurship hub for high-end products. He emphasized the importance of professional knowledge in upgrading micro-enterprises and advised giving more encouragement to entrepreneurial activities in green products and certified organic farming.
