Police, security forces deployed for people’s welfare: DGP Swain

Inaugurates new Police Post Rahmoo in Pulwama

Srinagar: The Director General of Police, J&K, R.R. Swain, wrote in the Gazetted Officers Register after inaugurating the new Police Post Rahmoo in Pulwama: “Let the police station, its officers, and personnel become the guardians of rule of law, peace, prosperity, and well-being. Let the police personnel of this police station become the watchdogs of the lives, limbs, and property of ordinary citizens. Let the new chapter begin for the 12 villages for which this police station has been set up.”

In addition to inaugurating the new Police Post, the DGP addressed a public rally at Rahmoo, chaired a jurisdictional Police officers meeting at District Police Lines Pulwama, and interacted with civil society members at Pulwama. He was accompanied by ADGP Law & Order Vijay Kumar to Rahmoo while IGP Kashmir V K Birdi received the DGP at Pulwama.

Immediately after the inauguration of the Police Post, DGP J&K inspected the infrastructure of the newly constructed Police Post. He also interacted with the officers and personnel posted there, emphasizing the delivery of top-class policing services to the common citizens of the area. He directed them to practice friendly behavior with those in need and to be tough against inimical elements.

Addressing the public meeting at Rahmoo after the inauguration, the DGP J&K said that the J&K Police is making all efforts to provide a safe and secure environment to its citizens. He emphasized that the Police and other security forces deployed are for the welfare of the people and the larger betterment of society.

He further stated that if any officer or official can’t win the trust of citizens, then there is a fault in policing, adding that few men from society are privileged to don the uniform, which is meant to serve people and take care of their safety and security. He highlighted the difference between policing and other professions, emphasizing the need for stringent action against inimical elements within society for the larger benefit of other people living in the same society.

Assuring enhanced and better policing services, the DGP urged people to come forward and facilitate the police and security forces in delivering better services. Speaking on the occasion, DDC chairman Pulwama Bari Andrabi, DDC member Javeed Rahim Bhat, and other respectable individuals appreciated the J&K Police and other security forces for providing a safe and secure atmosphere.

Speaking to the media, the DGP J&K said that there is no doubt about the connection between narcotics and terrorism; they are working hand in glove. He mentioned that narco-terrorism has emerged as a challenge, as it is being used like oxygen for the revival of terrorism, which is almost about to die.

After investigating and filing chargesheets of narcotic cases, it has come to the fore that elements from across the border who are sending narcotic consignments are terror handlers, terror coordinators, and are connected with LeT, Al Badr, and other terror outfits. He assured that stringent action will be taken against those found involved in the narcotics trade.

Regarding the elections, the DGP said that J&K Police, along with other security forces, are ready and duty-bound to provide a congenial atmosphere for the voters whenever they are announced. Later, the DGP J&K reviewed the security scenario of the district in a meeting with jurisdictional police officers. SP Pulwama gave a PowerPoint presentation about the functioning of the jurisdictional police and measures taken by the district on different fronts.

The meeting was attended by IGP Kashmir V K Birdi, DIG SKR Altaf Ahmad Khan, AIG Training & Policy PHQ Manoj Kumar Pandith, SP Pulwama Ms. PD Nitya, and other jurisdictional police officers. The DGP J&K also met with some civil society members of the Pulwama district. He patiently listened to their grievances and assured redressal of genuine issues, appreciating the role of people in the prevailing peace and safety of the area.
