KVIC empowers rural artisans with machinery

Provides 300 Bee Boxes, 100 Potter’s Wheels

Srinagar, Mar 10: In a bid to empower rural artisans across Jammu and Kashmir, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) provided 411 machinery and toolkits under the Khadi Gramodyog Vikas Yojana on Sunday.

Chairman of KVIC, Manoj Kumar, facilitated the event held at SKICC, Srinagar, in the presence of KVIC Member (North Zone) Nagendra Raghuvanshi, realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.

During the distribution program, 300 Bee Boxes were allocated to 30 Beekeepers in Jammu, 100 Electric Wheels were provided to potters in Kashmir, 10 Hydra Pulper Paper Mache machines were given to artisans, and 10 artisans received fruit and vegetable machines under the ABFPI scheme. Additionally, 200 trainees at PMTC Pampore were awarded training certificates.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Chairman Manoj Kumar highlighted the global reach of Khadi and Village Industries products under the Modi government’s tenure. He emphasized KVIC’s efforts to connect rural artisans with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, providing modern training, toolkits, and machinery.

Under various schemes, KVIC has distributed Electric Wheels to over 27,000 potters and more than 2 lakh Honey Bee Boxes, benefiting 20,000 recipients. Kumar noted the substantial employment generated, particularly for women, through Khadi institutions in Jammu.

Through the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP), 54,252 new units have been established in Jammu and Kashmir, providing employment to 4,34,016 individuals in 20 districts.

Kumar emphasized the transformative impact of ‘New Khadi of New India’ on the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’, witnessing a significant increase in Khadi sales and economic prosperity for rural artisans.

To fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, KVIC is actively promoting village industry activities, providing skill development training, and distributing machinery and toolkits to workers.

The distribution program was attended by representatives of Khadi institutions, beneficiaries of Gramodyog Vikas Yojana, bank representatives, KVIC officers, and employees, alongside officials from the Union Territory of Jammu.
