Peace has returned to J&K: DGP Swain

‘Enemy operates on fear; its abilities limited’
SRINAGAR: While stating that peace has returned to J&K, DGP R R Swain Friday said that the enemy’s capacity to cause harm is limited, but it exploits fear to create insecurity among the people.
“I have said from the beginning that the ability of the adversary to cause harm has always been limited. It was not what it was showing. But, they work on the basis of fear. They publish the names of four people who then lose their sleep because of fear,” DGP said.
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the concluding ceremony of 23rd All India Police Water Sports Championship here. Swain said the adversary works on fear and asked the people to be cautious.
“This system works on fear like the fear of dogs. A dog who barks does not necessarily bite, but people get afraid because of that barking. It is not easy to tackle, the people need to understand it and be cautious about it,” he said.
He said that peace has returned to J&K and the police force won’t allow it to derail.
DGP said that they were a little bit worried about Prime Minister Narendera Modi’s visit but “everything went off peacefully.”
“Peace has returned to J&K and we will not allow it to derail,” the DGP said. “The ability of an adversary has always been limited. It is not an easy task to counter the fear. We are in 2024 and the year 2025 will be self-explanatory.”
The J-K Police chief said the police and security agencies also need to stay on the course to maintain peace.
“We will take steps to move forward, rectify our mistakes and increase our commitment level. Then the people will themselves see that we are sincere and capable and that our intensions are right,” he added.
Swain said the adversary tends to exemplify even small incidents to create fear.
“We will not overlook those incidents, but we will see it in the context of the overall graph. We will focus on our strategy and keep an eye on whether it is working or not. If someone tries to derail us, we know that we are not going to deviate from our path. We will take it to the destination,” he asserted.
He said such a situation would be created where those anti-national elements who are still there would fall silent themselves. “Talk to me in 2025, you will know the difference,” Swain added.
Later, talking to reporters, the J&K police chief said that the water sports events will be organised at the nook and corner of J&K.
“J&K police have taken it as a commitment. We will collaborate with the sports department and the experts to explore the villages and cities where there are water bodies to promote water sports,” he said.
To a query about absence of J&K police’s women team in the event, the DGP said that women cops are good at policing and recording keeping. “It’s a matter of time and very soon we will have women’s teams as well,” he said.
Present on the occasion, LG’s Advisor Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar said that there has been a great growth in sports infrastructure and the administration is committed to expand it and involve all sections.
ADGP J&K Vijay Kumar, while thanking the participants of the event said that he was hopeful that all participants will remember the water sports championship. “There was a great enthusiasm among the participants and we are hopeful that more participants will join us in the future endeavours,” he said.  KNO/AGENCIES
