JIM & WS concludes skiing courses, names best skiers

Srinagar, March 07: The Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM & WS) successfully concluded two skiing courses, the Basic Skiing Course – 64 (BSC-64) and the Advance Skiing Course 18 (ASC-18), spanning from February 22 to March 6,

A total of 83 trainees from across the country participated in these courses, with 66 students enrolled in BSC-64. Among them, 59 successfully completed the course, which covered a comprehensive range of skiing techniques including sliding, gliding, schussing, fall & recovery, side-stepping, snowplough & brake, herringbone, snowplough turn, traverse & kick turn, stem turn, and stem swing.

Outstanding performers in the Basic Skiing Course – 64 were Priyanka Barman, Ankita Thakkar, JUO (NCC) Umar Khursheed, Dileep Singh Rana,  Shashank Tomar, and Aijaz Ahmad Baba.

The Best in Slalom awards went to CQMS (NCC) Sadia Khatun (In Girls) and JUO (NCC) Gowher Ahmad Reshi (In Boys), with Ajay Raj named as the Best Student.

In the Advance Skiing Course – 18, all 17 students successfully completed the program, which focused on advanced skiing techniques such as Langlauf with gears, dynamic stem swing, parallel turns, weddlen turn, long brook, middle brook, short brook, mogul skiing, one-leg skiing, off-piste, and downhill.

Notable participants included Mukta, Karthik Ganesan, and Aman Sharma, with Bhupender Singh excelling in Slalom and Langlauf and earning the title of Best Student.

These courses not only equipped participants with essential skiing skills but also provided valuable insights into safety measures and the competitive aspects of the sport.

The Defence Ministry extends hearty congratulations to all participants and award winners for their dedication and achievements in these skiing courses.
