4 gamblers as many peddlers arrested: Police

Srinaga: Police in Baramulla arrested four gamblers on Monday and seized stake money from their possession.

Acting on specific information about gambling activities at ZoogiyarSheeri, authorities reported that a police party from PS Sheeri, led by SHO PS Sheeri, conducted a raid at the gambling site and apprehended the individuals.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Rehman, resident of Pehliharan; Irshad Ahmad Tantray, son of Ghulam Hassan, resident of Zoogiyar; Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of GhNabi; and GhNabi Malik, son of GhulamQadir, both residents of ZandfaranSheeri, as per the police statement.

Police officers confiscated stake money amounting to Rs 6,020/- and playing cards from their possession.

Accordingly, a case under FIR No. 04/2024, involving relevant sections of the law, has been registered at Police Station Sheeri, and an investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, in Budgam, police today arrested four drug peddlers and seized charas from their possession.

Authorities said that a police party from PS Magam, stationed at a checkpoint in WataMagam, intercepted a suspicious vehicle with registration number JK05G-2152 carrying three individuals.

The arrested individuals were identified as Abid Ahmad Bhat (Driver), son of AbMajidBhat; Zeeshan Ahmad Dar, son of Fayaz Ahmad Dar; and Ahitsham Ashraf Wani, also known as Sahil, son of Mohd Ashraf Wani—all residents of HazarporaAripanthan.

Upon searching, the police recovered 315 grams of charas from their possession, leading to their arrest. “The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized,” police said.

Subsequently, police said, based on their disclosure, another drug peddler, identified as Amir Ahmed Ganiee, also known as Raja, son of Gh Ahmad Ganiee and resident of PethKanihama, was arrested. The police recovered 360 grams of charas powder from his possession.

A case under FIR No.13/2024, involving relevant sections of the law, has been registered at Police Station Magam, and an investigation has been initiated.
