SDM Gulmarg issues advisory for visitors

Srinagar: The Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gulmarg Sunday issued a winter advisory to ensure safe and convenient travel along the road leading to the renowned ski destination.

In the advisory the SDM outlined several measures to prevent accidents and traffic congestion on the slippery roads during the winter season.

According to the advisory, only 4×4 vehicles and those equipped with anti-skid chains will be permitted to travel from Tangmarg to Gulmarg and vice versa until the ice on the road thaws.  The restriction aims to avoid accidents and prolonged traffic disruptions.

“LMVs with a seating capacity not exceeding 10 seats will be allowed on GulmargTangmarg Road to prevent jams and vehicle breakdowns,” the advisory stated.

Furthermore, the advisory specified that only registered anti-skid chain vendors would be authorized to install chains on vehicles in allocated parking spaces, with a set rate of Rs. 600 per pair for anti-skid chains.

Tour operators and private vehicle owners were urged to utilize designated parking spaces in various Tangmarg locations and refrain from parking on the roadside to avoid traffic congestion.

The advisory also emphasized that coat and boot vendors should not operate on roads to attract tourists, aiming to prevent inconvenience to both tourists and traffic disruptions.

This winter advisory seeks to enhance safety measures and streamline traffic management for the benefit of residents and visitors traveling to the popular ski destination of Gulmarg.
