Srinagar, Jan 22: As part of the Srinagar Smart City Project, the Karan Nagar Gole Market is all set to undergo a substantial makeover, drawing inspiration from the successful LalChowk Plaza model.
The initiative, officials said, includes the installation of an amphitheatre or Visual Message Display (VMD) in the vicinity.
A senior official of the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) informed the news gathering agency, KNO that the ambitious project has commenced, with around 30 percent of its work completed.
“The project aims to infuse a modern aesthetic into the heart of Karan Nagar Gole Market. We are introducing a layout similar to LalChowk Plaza integrated with amenities such as an amphitheatre or large VMD in the area,” he said.
The official said the estimated cost of the project is around Rs 22 crore, emphasizing a substantial investment to enhance the area’s infrastructure and overall appeal.
“The rejuvenation project is expected to bring about a significant facelift to the Karan Nagar Gole market on the possible modernised lines,” he said.
In August last year, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the revamped Residency Road, Srinagar Square, LalChowk and Clock Tower.
According to the SSCL officials, works taken up under Srinagar Smart City aim to integrate technology for sustainable development and focus on promoting eco-friendly practices in the summer capital of Kashmir. (KNO)
