Education Working Group embarks on journey to shape up future

New Delhi: In a year marked by unprecedented international cooperation, India’s Department of Higher Education, through its International Cooperation Cell (ICC), achieved significant milestones, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to advancing education globally.

Under India’s G20 Presidency, the Education Working Group (EdWG) embarked on a journey to shape the future of education.

From prioritizing foundational learning to fostering research collaboration, the EdWG addressed critical issues through seminars and meetings across various Indian cities.

The G20 Education Ministers’ Meeting in Pune culminated in the G20 Outcome document and Chair’s Summary, setting a common agenda for education globally.

Launched virtually on 22nd May 2023, the India-US Working Group on Education and Skill Development set the stage for enhanced collaboration between the two nations. With a focus on skilling, vocational education, certification, recognition, and matchmaking, the working group aimed to boost educational ties.

A high-level committee visited the UAE to discuss degree equivalence issues, followed by a delegation led by Union Minister DharmendraPradhan, signing a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of education.

Minister for Education, Australia, Jason Clare’s visits resulted in the signing of 11 institutional MoUs, the announcement of the International Education Innovation Fund Critical Skills Project, and discussions on mutual recognition of qualifications.

The 1st Australia-India Education and Skills Council Meeting at IIT Gandhinagar further strengthened ties.

Union Minister Pradhan’s visit to Singapore included meetings with key ministers and visits to institutes like Future Skills Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, fostering bilateral educational cooperation.

The 3rd India-Singapore Hackathon at IIT Gandhinagar brought together over 600 participants, fostering collaboration between academia, start-ups, and policymakers.

Participation in the 10th BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting in South Africa showcased India’s commitment to collaboration within the BRICS nations.

The launch of the Study in India Portal on 3rd August 2023 marked a significant step in promoting Indian Higher Education Institutions globally.

The portal streamlines admission and visa applications for international students, aligning with India’s vision to become a global education hub.

As 2023 came to a close, India’s educational diplomacy and global engagements underscored the nation’s dedication to fostering knowledge exchange, collaboration, and inclusivity on the international education stage.
