Hailing from Mammer, Zahoor’s journey began in the shadows of uncertainty until a glimmer of hope appeared in the form of the departmental extension wing.
As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Zahoor’s site emerged as an ideal canvas for trout venture. In 2010, the seeds of change were sown, and after overcoming hesitations and doubts, he submitted an application for a Trout Unit.
The department recognized the potential and in 2009-10, they granted Zahoor a Trout Raceway, accompanied by a much-needed financial boost of Rs 1.5 lakh.
The dream of a thriving Trout culture became a reality as he received essential resources such as feed, seed, and equipment.
With determination ablaze, he stocked the pond with 5000 Trout seeds, reaping a remarkable profit of Rs. 1.5 Lakh within the very first year.
The path to success was not paved with ease, but Zahoor’s relentless pursuit of knowledge was unwavering.
Attending training programs and awareness camps organized by the department became his compass, guiding him towards scientific insights in fish culture.
His dedication bore fruit as he steadily expanded his knowledge, realizing that this was the key to unlocking greater potential and prosperity.
With newfound wisdom and courage, Zahoor set his sights on doubling his income. In 2020-21, armed with the knowledge he gained about the PMMSY scheme through various programs, he approached the Department of Fisheries. The outcome was nothing short of spectacular. Two more raceways were sanctioned in favor of his family, a testament to his resolute spirit and commitment.
Over the past two years, the waters have yielded an astonishing harvest of over 28 quintals of fish. This transformation has extended far beyond monetary gains.
The addition of the Trout Unit has propelled Zahoor into a realm of full-fledged employment, breathing life into his socio-economic status. His story resonates as a reminder that when opportunity and tenacity converge, barriers shatter, dreams flourish, and lives are uplifted (KNO)
