Jan Aushadhi Kendra sales increase 11 times in Jammu

JAMMU: The sales of Jan Aushadhi Kendra medicines have witnessed a remarkable increase in Jammu District recording more than eleven fold surge since January last year.

The noteworthy development is substantiated by sample data collected from selected Jan AushadhiKendras located in Community Health Centres in Akhnoor, Bishnah, RS Pura, KotBhalwal, and ChowkiChoura, along with Government Hospitals Gandhi Nagar and Sarwal.

According to data compiled by the District Health Society, the cumulative sale figures from the outlets for the current financial year since January 2023 amounted to ₹27,14,487. With sustained efforts and support from the district administration to promote Jan AushadhiKendras, the most recent sales data has surged to ₹3,16,15,919, marking an impressive increase of around 11.6 times.

With an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all, PradhanMantriBhartiyaJanaushadhiPariyojana (PMBJP) was launched by the Government of India in November, 2008. Under the scheme, dedicated outlets known as JanaushadhiKendras are opened to provide generic medicines at affordable prices. Product basket of PMBJP comprises 1965 drugs and 293 surgical items.
